Travelers can now order food and other items at airports via two mobile apps that deliver the order right to your gate. The apps are particularly helpful for travelers facing short layovers with minimal time to shop and eat between flights.
Airport Sherpa, rolled out last month at Baltimore-Washington International Airport, allows travelers to order food and retail items through Airmall from their mobile device. Airport Sherpa then delivers the order to the departure gate.
The service costs $3.99–7.99 per order, with prices going up if the delivery is farther away from the vendor. Airport Sherpa gives customers a delivery time estimate and cuts off deliveries too close to departure times.
A similar app called At Your Gate debuts this month at San Diego International Airport. Its service costs $6.99 per order and promises a 10-minute delivery.
