InterContinental Miami unveiled the first hospitality project by Venus Williams, part of the international hot spot’s $30 million renovation. The tennis star’s firm, V Starr, designed two new presidential suites for the property, each with a different theme.
The Royal Palm Suite, with views of Biscayne Bay and Miami Beach, pays tribute to one of the area’s first hotels, the Royal Palm, which featured the city’s first electric lights, elevators and swimming pool. The new suite’s color palette of yellows, oranges and bright whites plus the textures of the walls and materials all reflect a classic chic Floridian décor.
With a nod to Miami’s first newspaper, The Miami Metropolis. the Metropolis Suite uses natural tones of gray and tan to convey a more contemporary city feel. The front page of the first paper printed hangs in the suite. Guests enjoy views of Biscayne Bay and downtown Miami.
Designed to be comfortable and homey, each two-story, 3,300-square-foot suite includes a master bedroom, a living room, a dining room, a multimedia room and a fully equipped kitchen. Spacious bathrooms feature a granite vanity with two large sinks, a soaking tub and a separate shower. Connecting bedrooms are available.
The massive renovation added the signature restaurant Toro Toro by world-renowned chef Richard Sandoval as well as a 19-story dynamic LED “digital canvas” on the façade of the hotel displaying changing images of the local art and culture scene.
