Love for Liberty Kitchen

I’m back with another food review from my beloved city of Philadelphia! This time, we head under the El in the Fishtown neighborhood to finally visit deli and market Liberty Kitchen.Liberty Kitchen

Liberty Kitchen has been on my radar for a while, as I’ve been drooling over its one-of-a-kind chicken cutlet sandwiches via social media. It was finally time to get my hands on one — and let me tell you, I’m so glad I did.

My friend and I decided to go for the classics and split both sandwiches to get the full experience. We dug into the Kale Caesar Cutlet and the Fig & Pig, each taking half of both to really savor the flavors.Liberty Kitchen

The Kale Caesar Cutlet sandwich was an absolute game-changer. It had the perfect balance of crispy onions, juicy chicken and creamy Caesar dressing. The chicken cutlet itself was flawlessly fried, with a golden, crunchy exterior, and the kale provided a fresh, earthy crunch that paired well with the dressing. Topped with crispy fried onions and a sprinkle of shaved parmesan, this sandwich was a brilliant twist on a classic — and I couldn’t have enjoyed it more.

The Fig & Pig sandwich was a perfect example of how a few well-chosen ingredients can come together to create something seriously satisfying. The foundation was obviously a crispy, breaded chicken cutlet. Then things really started to come together. The prosciutto added that salty richness, while the herbed goat cheese brought a smooth, creamy contrast that tasted just right. The fig jam was where things got interesting, adding a touch of sweetness that balanced the savory elements without overpowering them. Fresh arugula gave the sandwich a peppery crunch, and the pickled red onions added a tangy kick that cut through all the richness. It was a sandwich that felt familiar but with enough twists to keep things interesting, and every bite was a perfect balance of flavors. If you’re in the mood for something a little different, this one’s definitely worth trying.

If you know me, you know no feast feels complete without a little something sweet to finish it off. So, naturally, we couldn’t resist those last two brown butter chocolate chip cookies. Topped with a sprinkle of sea salt and still warm from the oven, they were everything we needed and more.

I am already thinking about what I’ll order next!Liberty Kitchen

Wellness Comes Naturally in Greenville, South Carolina

Strolling through downtown Greenville, South Carolina, it’s easy to see why the city ranks high among the best places to live in the United States: Shops, restaurants and coffee bars line the streets; there are also performance venues, hotels and outdoor plazas. But what really sets this upstate city of just more than 78,000 residents apart are the easily accessible parks and walking trails encouraging both residents and visitors to explore the city by foot or cycle (both handcycles and adaptive bikes are available to rent). Even better, as Greenville continues to grow, city planners and major employers work together to expand these opportunities. When Greenville’s Swamp Rabbit Trail, for instance, opened in 2009, the paved, multiuse pathway ran about 9 miles from the heart of Greenville to the town of Traveler’s Rest.

Grand Hotel Des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz Review

Switzerland’s most storied ski town (the one, in fact, credited with pioneering the very concept of Alpine tourism), St. Moritz legendarily attracts the rich, the famous, celebutantes and the wannabes. Yet, there’s something compellingly earthy about the place, a town on a lake rich with natural environs, where winter sports and summer activities draw athletes and mountain lovers aplenty. As at the mountain restaurants (where some arrive by chairlift rather than muscle movement, and all types of diners and imbibers convene), Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz straddles the old and new, the lavish and the understated. The hotel, one of St. Moritz’s oldest, opened as a spa haven in 1864, set atop a healing mineral spring.
