One of my favorite things about living so close to the city is there is always something to do. Last Sunday my mom, her group of friends and I headed down to Philadelphia’s Old City for a Sex and the City murder mystery (renamed Slay in the City) at Red Rum Theater. Murder and cosmos? Sign me up!
We started our afternoon with lunch at P.J. Clarke’s, an American Bar and Grill located in the Curtis Building, same as the theater. With both breakfast and lunch options available on the menu, I enjoyed a goat cheese and spinach omelet with a side of truffle fries for the table. The server even surprised my mom with a complimentary brownie sundae for her birthday!
After lunch, we headed down to the show in an intimate theater perfect for the hilarious chaos that unfolded. The ladies of Sex and the City (and their fabulous outfits) mingled with each table before the show started, dropping small clues and interacting with each guest. Before we knew it, Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte were roaming around New York City trying to figure out exactly which one of them killed Carrie’s new boyfriend. Cue the gossip, clues and wild theories!
The cast nailed the characters, with a murderous twist, and even roped us into the action. My mom’s crew and I took the detective role seriously (helped by a few cocktails). By the end, we were laughing so hard we didn’t care our theories were completely wrong.

On March 21, Miller Gardner, the 14-year-old son of former New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner, was found dead in a hotel room on a family vacation in Costa Rica. A few days after the tragedy, the Judicial Investigation Agency ruled his death as carbon monoxide poisoning. The family had been staying at Arenas Del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort, a 5-star property in the Puntarenas Province. On April 1, a spokesperson for the resort claimed the carbon monoxide levels in the family’s room were not present nor deadly.
