I enjoy walking downtown stretches of Chicago’s neighboring suburbs, looking for interesting shops. Recently, I found a gem in Winnetka, 20 minutes north of Chicago.

Nestled in the heart of Winnetka’s quaint downtown is Vivid Art Gallery. It was opened in 2016 by two friends with a goal of being an engaging gallery experience.

Though not a huge gallery, I found myself spending much more time than I anticipated. I really liked the different artists and styles. No two pieces were alike. I seemingly found a new favorite with each art piece I encountered.

In talking to the staffer, I learned the gallery features works by more than 20 artists. This results in the eclectic mix of style and media I noticed. Stored in the back are multiple works of each artist, allowing patrons the chance to see more pieces of any featured artist of interest.

On my way back to my car, I found Once Upon a Bagel, a deli with a large menu for all meals. The bagel selection alone had me hooked. I picked up a few to take home after enjoying a turkey burger on a challah bun. It was perfection. I was too late for pumpkin or caramel apple bagels, but I am now following them on social media to get updates on future flavors.

I never research ahead of time because I like discovering places as I wander. I usually find interesting spots, but this trip to Winnetka was a real winner.
