Coming soon to London, visitors and locals can travel back to the 16th century at a new visitor experience built on the site of The Curtain Playhouse, a historic playhouse that showcased Shakespearean plays from 1577 into the mid-17th century.
This open-air theater once held up to 1,000 people, and excavations revealed an extensive playhouse that once saw Shakespeare’s acting company, the Lord Chamberlain’s Men, entertain audiences with plays like Romeo and Juliet and Henry V, as well as plays by Christopher Marlowe and Ben Jonson. In fact, Shakespeare even acted in a play at this theater.

Soon, visitors and Shakespeare fans can follow in the footsteps of the playwright through a series of immersive and interactive experiences. Expect all of the sights, sounds and smells of Elizabethan London. The Museum of Shakespeare, developed by Bompas & Parr in collaboration with Cain International, Museum of London Archaeology and Historic England, will sit 3 meters underground.
The museum is set to open in 2025.
Around the theater, The Stage will also be built. This development will include retail space, restaurants, a cocktail pub and apartments. Middle Eastern steak restaurant Black Cow will also open in the complex.

The Stage and new museum can be found in Shoreditch in eastern London. Nearby luxury hotels include Nobu Hotel London Shoreditch and Virgin Hotels London-Shoreditch.

Apr 30, 2025Relais Villa Porta Review
Tucked into a Lake Maggiore enclave overlooking the Gulf of Colmegna, Relais Villa Porta is an idyllic place to take in a side of the Italian Lakes region that’s different from buzzy Lake Como during high season. In 1820, it was built as a hunting lodge, and by the end of the century, was transformed into an inn by Leopoldo Casnedi. Over time, the surrounding parkland was further enhanced with rare plants collected by Pietro Porta, its second owner and botanist, as well as regular guests wanting to support his efforts. This ensured the inn would ultimately sit pretty within a 10,000-square-meter park surrounding the main villa, a 19th-century Liberty-style greenhouse and original Villa Porta mosaic.
