Trying out the Matcha Genmaicha Tea’

Bringing another unboxing your way; are you ready? Sakuraco December is themed Holidays in Hokkaido. I learned a lot in this unboxing.

Tea

Ready for a December Sakuraco experience!

The guidebooks in Sakuraco are full of beautiful factoids about the region they’re focused on, and Hokkaido has been at the top of my bucket list for some time now. I must disclose I have not tasted the box in its entirety.

FEEL FREE TO SKIP THE DESCRIPTIONS BELOW AND GO DIRECTLY TO THE UNBOXING VIDEO AT THE BOTTOM!

Trying out the Matcha Genmaicha Tea

The standouts of this month’s box, not in order of preference

  • Saku Saku Shikaku Milk & Chocolate Cookie: Bite into the butteriest, most delicate cracker with a milk and white chocolate filling.
  • Matcha Genmaicha Tea: If you enjoy your green tea infused with brown rice, this one is for you. Enjoy a warm and earthy hug from your mug.
  • Bamkuchen Multilayered Tea Cake: Expect nothing other than a subtle sweetness.
  • Hokkaido Adzuki Cake: Light and airy cake filled with adzuki beans, it’s an absolute delight.
  • Fried Corn Snack: These felt like they were thrown in the air fryer and doused in the perfect dose of salt and butter.
  • Camembert Cheese Arare: For those who love camembert already, they know to expect a strong cheesy essence. This was a snack I have to be in the mood for. Maybe pair it with a white wine to best enjoy.
  • Yuzu Kaki No Tane: Lemony with the right zing and the tiniest kick of shicimi togarashi spice, it’s very good!
  • Hokkaido Butter Cookie: Super thin, crisp and buttery, it’s the perfect mate to that matcha genmaicha tea!
  • Okinawan Salt Daifuku: This has the texture of mochi, but it is Okinawan salt kneaded into dough, deliciously filled with sweet bean paste. Yum!
  • White Chocolate Strawberry: Holy heck! I loved this. This felt like a freeze-dried strawberry bathed in white chocolate. Give me more.

    Tea

The Okinawan Salt Daifuku was so delicious!

Snacks I have to try still:

  • Hakodate Squid Senbei: Presented in the shape of a squid, I have to say it makes me a little nervous. But I do love those Japanese shrimp-flavored chips, so I am excited to give this a try.
  • Muscat Fruit Jelly: Really looking forward to this, the booklet guide says it has the sweet and tangy goodness of muscat grapes.
  • Milk Mochi: I love mochi, and all the milk-based snacks I have tried have been divine. Cannot wait to pair it with tea later.

Snacks I decline to try:

  • Wasabi Pistachios: As reported by Sid, my husband, this had a light wasabi spice that balanced nicely with the soft nuttiness of the pistachio.

This box had a lot. To top it off, it came with a beautiful indigo yuzen dish. It is microwave- and dishwasher-safe!

Enjoy the unboxing:

Wellness Comes Naturally in Greenville, South Carolina

Strolling through downtown Greenville, South Carolina, it’s easy to see why the city ranks high among the best places to live in the United States: Shops, restaurants and coffee bars line the streets; there are also performance venues, hotels and outdoor plazas. But what really sets this upstate city of just more than 78,000 residents apart are the easily accessible parks and walking trails encouraging both residents and visitors to explore the city by foot or cycle (both handcycles and adaptive bikes are available to rent). Even better, as Greenville continues to grow, city planners and major employers work together to expand these opportunities. When Greenville’s Swamp Rabbit Trail, for instance, opened in 2009, the paved, multiuse pathway ran about 9 miles from the heart of Greenville to the town of Traveler’s Rest.

Grand Hotel Des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz Review

Switzerland’s most storied ski town (the one, in fact, credited with pioneering the very concept of Alpine tourism), St. Moritz legendarily attracts the rich, the famous, celebutantes and the wannabes. Yet, there’s something compellingly earthy about the place, a town on a lake rich with natural environs, where winter sports and summer activities draw athletes and mountain lovers aplenty. As at the mountain restaurants (where some arrive by chairlift rather than muscle movement, and all types of diners and imbibers convene), Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz straddles the old and new, the lavish and the understated. The hotel, one of St. Moritz’s oldest, opened as a spa haven in 1864, set atop a healing mineral spring.
