ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN: We arrived at Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia at Comcast Center with little time to prepare for our Leisure Lifestyle Awards event. I was relieved the hotel had valet service so I could just pull up and head straight for the elevator. I can’t say I’ve ever enjoyed an elevator ride, but traveling to the top of the 1,121-foot, 60-story Comcast Technology Center in the glass elevator was thrilling. Occupying the top 12 floors of Philadelphia’s tallest building, the hotel is North America’s highest hotel. Just outside the elevator, a massive wall of fresh flowers welcomes guests. I was greeted at the front desk and quickly checked in.
GUEST QUARTERS: As we opened the door and entered the room, the floor-to-ceiling curtains opened automatically, revealing spectacular views of the city. I kept walking from room to room admiring the view from all directions. The room had a sofa that turned into a bed for my daughter that night. It also had a dining table capable of seating four and a bedroom with a king-sized bed separated by a large pocket door. The bathroom was spacious with a huge shower, and a soaking tub that sat in front of yet another stunning view through floor-to-ceiling windows. Fresh flower arrangements added color to each room.
The room included an extensive bar with everything from soda and water to beer, several types of liquor and an exquisite bottle of Opus One Overture for red wine connoisseurs. A walk-in closet with a makeup table led to an oversized bathroom. My daughter was pleased there was a yoga mat in case the mood struck her.
I didn’t get to soak in the tub, but the shower was divine. I had never seen a shower with push-button controls! And the water pressure was remarkable. After my shower, I wrapped myself in a luxurious robe and got out the hairdryer. I thought it amusing there was an attached note in the hairdryer case stating if I’d like to keep the dryer, a charge of $400 would be charged to my room. But after using the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer, I understood. I think my hair was dry in about two minutes. I actually contemplated taking it home with me, but I couldn’t justify the splurge since I have short hair.
It wasn’t until the next morning I noticed another door in the main room. To my surprise, it was a second bathroom!
SERVICES/AMENITIES: The hotel offers a fitness center where you can book one-on-one training sessions or a yoga or Pilates session with The Lab, its health and fitness specialists. And don’t miss the heated infinity pool — you’ll feel like you’re floating above the city.

Past the lobby is the entrance to JG Skyhigh, an excellent place for a power lunch or cocktails with colleagues. Dividing the lounge is a breathtaking waterfall-encased staircase that leads into Jean-Georges Philadelphia, where you can enjoy a culinary creation curated by Chef de Cuisine Cornelia Sühr while enjoying panoramic views of the city.
TOP TAKEAWAYS:
- The spa has 700 pounds of healing crystals encased in the structure of the walls.
- We enjoyed in-room dining for breakfast. I can recommend the strawberry shortcake waffle with strawberry mascarpone, hazelnut and macerated strawberries.
- JG Skyhigh is the perfect location to enjoy cocktails while taking in the views.

Mindful drinking with an eye on wellness can mean ordering a zero-proof or low ABV cocktail instead of one that’s boozy and stirred, or slowly savoring one glass of wine instead of tossing back two or three. But sometimes, where you’re sipping a beverage can have just as much of a positive effect on your mind, body and spirit as what’s in your glass.

Apr 30, 2025Relais Villa Porta Review
Tucked into a Lake Maggiore enclave overlooking the Gulf of Colmegna, Relais Villa Porta is an idyllic place to take in a side of the Italian Lakes region that’s different from buzzy Lake Como during high season. In 1820, it was built as a hunting lodge, and by the end of the century, was transformed into an inn by Leopoldo Casnedi. Over time, the surrounding parkland was further enhanced with rare plants collected by Pietro Porta, its second owner and botanist, as well as regular guests wanting to support his efforts. This ensured the inn would ultimately sit pretty within a 10,000-square-meter park surrounding the main villa, a 19th-century Liberty-style greenhouse and original Villa Porta mosaic.
