The Royal Portfolio, an award-winning collection of luxury hotels, resorts and lodges throughout South Africa, announced the reopening of Africa House, the signature, exclusive-use villa at its flagship Royal Malewane safari lodge, following an extensive redesign overseen by owner and noted designer Liz Biden.

Once the original Biden family homestead, the massive six-bedroom Africa House has been completely reimagined in Ms. Biden’s signature design style, featuring a different eye-popping color scheme in each room and original artworks by leading contemporary African artists such as Michael Gah and Tega Tafadzawa.
Ideal for families, multigenerational groups and reunions, Africa House can accommodate up to 12 guests in six en suite guestrooms, each opening onto a private deck with an outdoor shower. The expansive front deck, social spaces and swimming pools connect Africa House to the surrounding landscape and wildlife.

Highlights of the all-new Africa House include a spacious second courtyard and a family-friendly long room featuring connected dining and living spaces, a pool table, board games and more. Just a few steps from the villa sits the outdoor boma area, featuring a firepit and outdoor pizza oven for al-fresco dining and relaxation under the stars.
Malewane Lodge, The Farmstead and Waterside are three separate lodges at Royal Malewane. The three lodges offer the same quality of safari experience, with the only difference being their individual style and design. Malewane Lodge has six Luxury Suites, each sleeping two people; two Royal Suites, each with two bedrooms; and Africa House, an exclusive-use bush villa with six en suite bedrooms, a great option for a luxury family safari or for a group of friends celebrating a special occasion.

Royal Malewane lies within Greater Kruger Park and is part of Thornybush Game Reserve, located on the western border of Kruger National Park. No fences separate Royal Malewane’s reserve with Kruger Park, and wildlife roams freely across the protected area.
Rates at Malewane Lodge start at $2,356 per night, double occupancy, for a deluxe suite during mid-season (September–December). Rates include accommodations; all meals and snacks; South African premium wines, beverages, all coffees and specialty teas; wireless internet; laundry service; two game drives daily and bush walks; full mini-bar; and transfers to and from Jackalberry Airstrip (for private charter flights).

The Farmstead offers three Luxury Farm Suites, each accommodating two people, and The Farmhouse, a private villa. Waterside has four Luxury Suites, each sleeping two people; the two-bedroom Baobab Suite; two interconnected Aloe Rooms; and Waterside House, a four-bedroom private house. Apr 30, 2025Relais Villa Porta Review
Tucked into a Lake Maggiore enclave overlooking the Gulf of Colmegna, Relais Villa Porta is an idyllic place to take in a side of the Italian Lakes region that’s different from buzzy Lake Como during high season. In 1820, it was built as a hunting lodge, and by the end of the century, was transformed into an inn by Leopoldo Casnedi. Over time, the surrounding parkland was further enhanced with rare plants collected by Pietro Porta, its second owner and botanist, as well as regular guests wanting to support his efforts. This ensured the inn would ultimately sit pretty within a 10,000-square-meter park surrounding the main villa, a 19th-century Liberty-style greenhouse and original Villa Porta mosaic.
