Alyeska Nordic Spa – Summer 2023

The beautiful surroundings outside Alyeska Resort.

Alyeska Nordic Spa is nestled at the base of a mountain range. It’s the perfect setting for a relaxation session.

Alaska

Welcome to relaxation central, Alyeska Nordic Spa.

You’ll find all the amenities you’d expect, including beautiful showers complete with Nordic Spa toiletries infused with essential oils that hit your nostrils and activate the happy senses. Make the experience even better with a massage, which you can book ahead of time; highly recommended during the summer season! When you book your massage, you also get access to the hydrotherapy area. There’s also plenty of lounge space to hang with friends before and after your plunge pool relaxation session. You’ll find a casual eatery as well as a bistro, offering you a chance to address that hunger.

Enjoy a massage designed to bring you back to feeling your best.

The hydrotherapy area offers a fully unplugged, phone-free zone. This is a space where relaxation is taken seriously. You are encouraged to just connect with fellow visitors seeking the same relaxation journey.

All experiences in the hydrotherapy area are clearly marked. There are wet saunas as well as dry saunas. The signature sauna features pink Himalayan salt bricks that release properties that help your respiratory system. Do not touch those bricks! There are multiple reminders throughout about hot they are.

A guide to all the hydrotherapy that awaits.

Alaska

Take a break from the hydrotherapy on a swing or by the fire. Bring a book!

In terms of pools, you’ll find several options of each. There are hot tubs that are 190 degrees, cold plunges that’ll make your legs tingle. There are two cold plunges, one that is manageably cold and another that felt Arctic-level cold. There’s nothing like that tingly sensation of the veins constricting and your pores closing right up.

All of this with the backdrop of tall pines and the promise of wildlife in the distance. My whole time here I was hoping a moose would pop its head through the trees. I found it interesting that it’s warmer here than in Anchorage.

I had a chance to walk through Alyeska Resort, which is absolutely stunning. I wish I had had more time to really take it in. They debuted their Veil Breaker Skybridges this July. They consist of two bridges spanning 600 feet, suspended 2,500 feet in the air. You’ll want to allot  2 to 3 hours, depending on how many times you stop to cry a little. Definitely something worth coming back for.

Alaska

Even the Alyeska Resort lobby is a relaxing space.

Nordic Spa is open 365 days a year. Snowy hot tub? Can you even handle it? I’ll definitely be coming back!

Wellness Comes Naturally in Greenville, South Carolina

Strolling through downtown Greenville, South Carolina, it’s easy to see why the city ranks high among the best places to live in the United States: Shops, restaurants and coffee bars line the streets; there are also performance venues, hotels and outdoor plazas. But what really sets this upstate city of just more than 78,000 residents apart are the easily accessible parks and walking trails encouraging both residents and visitors to explore the city by foot or cycle (both handcycles and adaptive bikes are available to rent). Even better, as Greenville continues to grow, city planners and major employers work together to expand these opportunities. When Greenville’s Swamp Rabbit Trail, for instance, opened in 2009, the paved, multiuse pathway ran about 9 miles from the heart of Greenville to the town of Traveler’s Rest.

Grand Hotel Des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz Review

Switzerland’s most storied ski town (the one, in fact, credited with pioneering the very concept of Alpine tourism), St. Moritz legendarily attracts the rich, the famous, celebutantes and the wannabes. Yet, there’s something compellingly earthy about the place, a town on a lake rich with natural environs, where winter sports and summer activities draw athletes and mountain lovers aplenty. As at the mountain restaurants (where some arrive by chairlift rather than muscle movement, and all types of diners and imbibers convene), Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz straddles the old and new, the lavish and the understated. The hotel, one of St. Moritz’s oldest, opened as a spa haven in 1864, set atop a healing mineral spring.
