Many of you tell me you read Global Traveler in one of your favorite airline lounges, at home or when traveling. Certainly, summer travel is making an adjustment from beaches to cities, hitting hard some local beach towns like Tybee Island, Georgia; Kitty Hawk, North Carolina; and Florida’s Panhandle. Some reports identify vacation rentals in these areas down 10–20 percent, and that seems to be the case all over. Those who flocked to local beaches are now packing European cities, Asia or South America as they re-establish their bucket-list trips.
GT recently underwent its annual, extensive AAM (Alliance for Audited Media) audit. We spent several months pulling individual subscription files and printing bills, newstand details, and airline lounge and postal receipts. This process helps us verify our distribution and circulation as well as review internally where and who make the best targets for the publication. We are also enhancing our digital edition and app with more reader- ship in the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge, Etihad Airways, Emirates, British Airways and others.
Our team spent time this month at the Global Business Travel Association’s 2023 Convention in Dallas. In conjunction with GBTA, we made sure to deliver Global Traveler to every delegate prior to the show as well as throughout the convention center. Eight Global Traveler staffers, including yours truly, plied the convention, and I am pleased to say we were a hit with planners and other attendees. Our cocktail reception at Aloft Dallas Downtown — where we also awarded the annual The Trazees (trazeetravel.com) and GT’s annual Industry Leader Awards — proved a great success.
I plan to close the month by traveling south to Sarasota, Florida, to enjoy the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, the restaurants and museums.
On a final note, I selected a cruise on AmaWaterways’ AmaMagna to celebrate my birthday and turned it into a Global Traveler-hosted trip. We still have some cabins available and are scheduling an onboard pickleball tournament. I look forward to Air France’s business class from New York’s JFK to Paris, connecting to Prague to start the trip. Please join me on this special cruise!
Best regards, and enjoy the rest of the summer!

Apr 2, 2025What’s New in Luxury Travel in Rome
Rome has always been a destination for art, history and culture, but, until recently, true luxury hospitality in the Eternal City was surprisingly limited. Five-star hotels existed, but the selection was small, often traditional and rarely pushed the boundaries of modern luxury. That’s changing fast. In 2025, a wave of new openings, high-profile renovations and bold hospitality concepts redefines what it means to stay in Rome. According to Mayor Roberto Gualtieri, Rome’s hotel occupancy far exceeds the European average, and Rome responded by investing more than 450 million euros in the city’s hotels in 2024 to meet the growing demand for exceptional experiences. Last month, I attended the inaugural edition of RISE Rome, a premier event dedicated to the city’s luxury hospitality sector, to catch up on the latest updates and newest trends shaping the city. Here are highlights from some of the city’s top stays.

Apr 2, 2025Scottsdale, Arizona, Welcomes Spring with New Experiences, Events
Spring is a wonderful time to visit Scottsdale, with April weather about 56–86 degrees Fahrenheit — not yet very hot, yet warm enough for swimming, biking and hiking. It is also the end of Scottsdale’s busy winter season, with hotels less crowded — and often less expensive, too. Spring is a season of fun under the sun in Scottsdale, with can’t-miss signature events, from cultural festivals and professional sporting competitions to collector car auctions and live music.
