In fact, Indiana recently released a list of archaeological sites the legend himself would love. Technically, Indiana Jones took his name from a furry friend, but there’s no doubt he would love the Hoosier State. Here are five archaeological sites for adventure lovers and movie buffs to explore:

JD Marshall Shipwreck

Indiana Dune State Park has been an important landscape in America scientifically, aesthetically and politically for nearly two centuries. Just off the shores sits an old-world wonder in Lake Michigan: the JD Marshall shipwreck. It became the first underwater nature preserve in Indiana in 2013. The ship sunk in 1911 when carrying lumber and sand to and from Indiana and the Chicago area, about 300 yards from the shore. The site has been marked by historic marker buoys and an anchoring boat. Now, visitors can dive and explore the wooden, steam-powered lumber boat and learn about a unique piece of history.

Angel Mounds State Historical Park

Pieces of the now-extinct Mississippian Tradition are scattered throughout the Angel Mounds historic site. It’s one of the best-preserved, pre-contact Native American sites in North America. Built between 1000 and 1450 A.D., the site tells the story of culture and tradition lost to time. Travelers are invited to rediscover history during their visit.

Marengo Cave

As one of the most beautiful caves in the world, Marengo Cave is Indiana’s most-visited natural landmarks. The National Landmark, discovered in 1883, offers a wide variety of fun activities like tours through Crystal Palace and Dripstone Trail, searching for gemstones, camping and crawling through the cave simulator.

Indianapolis Catacombs

Indianapolis Catacombs got its name from a failed financial venture in the 1970s when a City Market vendor attempted to renovate the underground area and turn it into a shopping mall named The Catacombs. It shows the past of Indianapolis’s City Market and Tomlinson Hall, which burnt down in a fire in 1958. The maze of archways and columns make for a daring space capable of hosting numerous events. Through the years, the area has been used as a storage place, shelter, firing range, elegant dining area and tourist destination. Many believe it hosts ghosts and claim to see bizarre happenings taking place within its walls.

Mounds State Park

Mounds State Park features a multitude of activities and was once the gathering point for Native American religious rituals and solar tracking. Evidence shows the signature mounds began construction around 250 B.C. and took until 50 A.D. to complete. The culture and tradition dominating the area left its marks and is still visible today. The mounds were regarded as holy symbols of Mother Earth. Evidence left behind shows the religious significance of the mounds in burial rites and overall importance.

Breathe in the View and Sip in the Moment in Puerto Vallarta

Mindful drinking with an eye on wellness can mean ordering a zero-proof or low ABV cocktail instead of one that’s boozy and stirred, or slowly savoring one glass of wine instead of tossing back two or three. But sometimes, where you’re sipping a beverage can have just as much of a positive effect on your mind, body and spirit as what’s in your glass.

Relais Villa Porta Review

Tucked into a Lake Maggiore enclave overlooking the Gulf of Colmegna, Relais Villa Porta is an idyllic place to take in a side of the Italian Lakes region that’s different from buzzy Lake Como during high season. In 1820, it was built as a hunting lodge, and by the end of the century, was transformed into an inn by Leopoldo Casnedi. Over time, the surrounding parkland was further enhanced with rare plants collected by Pietro Porta, its second owner and botanist, as well as regular guests wanting to support his efforts. This ensured the inn would ultimately sit pretty within a 10,000-square-meter park surrounding the main villa, a 19th-century Liberty-style greenhouse and original Villa Porta mosaic.
