“Historic Hotels of America is delighted to induct The Inn at Diamond Cove, a Federal style hotel built in 1891,” said Lawrence Horwitz, executive vice president, Historic Hotels of America and Historic Hotels Worldwide. “We commend The Inn at Diamond Cove and the leadership team for their careful historic preservation work, stewardship and vision that will allow future generations of travelers to experience this unique historic destination.” The Inn at Diamond Cove is part of The Portland Collection, managed by Colwen Hotels, an award-winning Hospitality Company.
To be selected for membership in Historic Hotels of America, a hotel must be at least 50 years old; be designated by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior as a National Historic Landmark or listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places; and recognized as having historic significance.

The Inn at Diamond Cove is rich in history and architectural integrity. Built 1891–1907, Fort McKinley was once used to defend Portland Harbor during the Spanish-American War. The Inn opened in 2015, following a careful restoration of the historic buildings that preserved its authentic details and original character while transforming the historic barracks into a holiday destination.
The Inn is on Great Diamond Island in Casco Bay. Just a 30-minute ferry ride from Portland’s Old Port district, the Inn is the centerpiece of Diamond Cove, a small private community of beautiful residences. The Inn offers 42 deluxe island condominiums with balconies; wide wooden porches; a swimming pool; cabana bar; and casual fine dining at Diamonds Edge, its waterfront restaurant overlooking Casco Bay. Guests enjoy nearby walking trails and historic ruins, secluded beaches, tennis, biking, boating and simply enjoying the peace and tranquility of Maine island living.

The Inn at Diamond Cove opened for the summer season in late May, and presently accepts reservations through early October.
