Bonjour! Welcome to our last issue of 2022 as I write to you from my cabin on Viking Fjorgyn as we sail on the Seine River on our way to Rouen in France’s Normandy region. The smooth sailing continues right into 2023 as we prepare for another year of delivering first-rate travel content to our readers through Global Traveler, globaltravelerusa.com, trazeetravel.com and whereverfamily.com.
As always, our December issue is an exciting one, with the annual announcement of our GT Tested Reader Survey awards. On the following pages get to know the reader-voted winners in our 19th annual ranking as well as our hand-selected Airline of the Year and Hotel of the Year winners and the second annual winners of our Outstanding Diversity & Inclusion in Travel honors. As we honor 2022’s most exceptional in travel, we also start the kick-off to next year’s major milestone: the 20th annual GT Tested Reader Survey awards! Join us to celebrate the 2022 winners in this issue and on Dec. 6 at The Ritz-Carlton LA Live in Los Angeles and to help launch our countdown to 20.
As 2022 rolls into 2023, we’re working to bring you a new roster of exciting destinations in the new year as well as a new column on the latest and greatest in must-have products, debuting in our January/February issue next month. Some of the exciting content ahead for next year includes a look at airline startups, the best walks around the globe, scuba diving tours, Mediterranean cruising, touchless airports and so much more. Next year we’re also publishing two digital-only editions, available exclusively on our app, that come from our sister brands, whereverfamily.com, coming in May, and trazeetravel.com, next October.
But before I get too far ahead of myself, there’s much to unpack in this month’s issue. We hear from InterContinental Hotels Group, The Peninsula Chicago and London’s The Lanesborough, as well as learn about Metallica’s — yes, the band! — brand of whiskey. And we jet off to Tel Aviv; Berlin; the Maldives; İstanbul; Birmingham, Alabama; and Newport, Rhode Island. Plus, there’s so much more. Enjoy this issue, have a warm and wonderful holiday season, and Happy New Year from FXExpress Publications, Inc. I’ll see you in 2023!

Apr 18, 2025Wellness Comes Naturally in Greenville, South Carolina
Strolling through downtown Greenville, South Carolina, it’s easy to see why the city ranks high among the best places to live in the United States: Shops, restaurants and coffee bars line the streets; there are also performance venues, hotels and outdoor plazas. But what really sets this upstate city of just more than 78,000 residents apart are the easily accessible parks and walking trails encouraging both residents and visitors to explore the city by foot or cycle (both handcycles and adaptive bikes are available to rent). Even better, as Greenville continues to grow, city planners and major employers work together to expand these opportunities. When Greenville’s Swamp Rabbit Trail, for instance, opened in 2009, the paved, multiuse pathway ran about 9 miles from the heart of Greenville to the town of Traveler’s Rest.

Apr 16, 2025Grand Hotel Des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz Review
Switzerland’s most storied ski town (the one, in fact, credited with pioneering the very concept of Alpine tourism), St. Moritz legendarily attracts the rich, the famous, celebutantes and the wannabes. Yet, there’s something compellingly earthy about the place, a town on a lake rich with natural environs, where winter sports and summer activities draw athletes and mountain lovers aplenty. As at the mountain restaurants (where some arrive by chairlift rather than muscle movement, and all types of diners and imbibers convene), Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz straddles the old and new, the lavish and the understated. The hotel, one of St. Moritz’s oldest, opened as a spa haven in 1864, set atop a healing mineral spring.
