I spent most of the last five weekends immersed in the world of Athletes Unlimited Softball. Season Three ended in thrilling fashion as Dejah Mulipola came from behind to win the 2022 title.
The weekend started Thursday with a season ticket holder picnic at the ballpark. Players and staffers mingled with fans for an evening of fun games, delicious food and softball chatter.

The weekend of games featured the usual exciting plays by elite athletes, culminating in catcher Mulipola winning the title on the strength of a triple and home run in the final game.
In its third year, I feel AU really hit its stride. Crowds filled the stadium at Parkway Bank Sports Complex. It was the most fun I had in the three seasons.

Murray Bros. Caddyshack Owner Andy Murray
We ate our postgame meals at nearby Murray Bros. Caddyshack. Opened in 2018, it was quickly embraced by Chicagoans, much like they love the Murray family. General manager Mike Avella told me, “Business is great only because of the great customers who come in and try us. We’ve been successful because we treat locals like they are locals, and everyone is a VIP.”

Murray Bros Caddyshack GM Mike Avella
As a regular at Murray Bros. Caddyshack, I agree with Mike’s assessment. The excellent staff is only surpassed by the fantastic food. The crispy potato balls appetizer, featuring fried garlic mashed potatoes, cheddar and bacon, is a winning starter. My usual entrée is the quesadilla appetizer, big enough to serve as a meal. Tart and tasty key lime pie perfectly finishes the meal.
AU Softball’s season is done, but it will return to Rosemont next year. I can’t wait, but until then, I will have many visits to Murray Bros. Caddyshack.
