Cycling in the summer is one of my ideal ways to spend the weekend. When you find yourself in Long Beach, you’ll learn it is a very bikeable city. Seeing a city from a bike is a completely different experience than driving through it; you get to truly take it in at your own pace.
My last ride took us up the Los Angeles River, which gives you the opportunity to ride without worrying about traffic. We biked about 5 miles alongside traffic and finally made it to the LA River bike path. Enjoy views of parks and wildlife that flourishes in these ecosystems. You can easily make your way to the Long Beach Shoreline from here. Once on the beach, you will find 7.5 scenic miles to ride along the water on the Long Beach Shoreline Bike Path.

Enjoying the ocean breeze.
The best part about expending that many calories is you can really dig into whatever your mouth desires. On this particular ride we found our way to Beachwood Long Beach Brewpub. They have a great selection of beers, including sours. I’m a big fan of the latter, so I tried a nectarine sour. These are seasonal, so you won’t find it on their menu. I highly recommend the crispy cauliflower. You can’t go wrong with the pulled pork sandwich. It is such a great atmosphere, you can really enjoy yourself here on the weekend.

Beachwood’s delicious food! Fried green tomatoes and the pulled pork sandwich.
