Chicago’s lakefront got a little more beautiful thanks to Artists of the Wall. The Loyola Beach seawall is now filled with amazing, colorful miniature murals.

A couple weeks ago, Artists of the Wall Festival returned for its 28th year. Originally a response to graffiti covering the wall, the festival has grown into one of the biggest events in the area. The two-day festival featured 160 artists using the seawalls as canvases to give their creative take on the theme of World of Tomorrow. The murals stay through next May, when the walls are prepared for the new artwork.

There was food, music and a kids’ activity tent. Chalk was available for amateur artists to join the fun by drawing on the sidewalk. The real fun, though, was seeing plain walls come alive with the artists’ visions.

I love running by Lake Michigan, especially after the new artwork appears. With the Chicago skyline in the distance, the magestic lake on one side and awesome art on the other, this is one of the most scenic runs for me. When my run is done, I always give myself time for a slow walk by all of the art.
