On the westernmost point of Sint Maarten, Sonesta Ocean Point Resort enhances the all-inclusive guest dining experience with the launch of Portofino, a restaurant specializing in a modern interpretation of classic Northern Italian specialties. Portofino joins two other open-air, exclusive-to-Ocean-Point-guests restaurants, Azul Restaurant and Bluefin Restaurant + Bar.

Executive Chef Francisco Almonte and his team seek to redefine the concept of all-inclusive dining, using seasonal and local ingredients highlighting both international flavors and the distinctive tastes of the Caribbean.

Classic menu items at Portofino include Carpaccio di Manzo, which is thinly sliced raw beef tenderloin with Parmesan and arugula; and Tagliatelle Frutti di Mare, boasting scallops, calamari, shrimp and black mussels cooked in white wine. Portofino is open for dinner, offering an á la carte, five-course menu on select evenings.

Azul Restaurant, perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking Maho Bay, features a Mediterranean-inspired menu with items like Roasted, Honey Orange Glaze Duck Leg. Azul serves breakfast daily with changing menus for lunch and dinner.

Above Azul Restaurant, Bluefin Restaurant + Bar serves light bites in the afternoon and a healthy, poke-inspired concept for dinner. Try the Soy Tuna or Teriyaki Salmon bowls, or build your own from a selection of proteins, toppings and bases.

A World of Wellness

According to Merriam-Webster, wellness, a noun, is defined as “the quality or state of being in good health especially as an actively sought goal.” As the definition states and as the travel industry knows, wellness reaches far beyond just simply being not sick; for some, the idea of wellness is an entire lifestyle. Wellness is sought daily, at home and, for many, while traveling. The meaning of the word can also shape-shift depending on the person. Maybe for you it’s morning meditation every day, while for your neighbor it’s splurging on a luxury spa day while on a beach vacation.

The organization asked me to serve as cochair with John Kelley, a member of the Advisory Board of FXExpress Publications, Inc. Last year’s event surpassed that of 2023, so we have big shoes to fill for 2025.
