Upscale guided travel company Tauck introduced the new eight-day journey, Swiss Highlands & Bavarian Alps, with in-depth itineraries to immerse each traveler into the region’s culture. To make this trip the ultimate discovery, Tauck will incorporate the traditional Passion Play, an epic performance held in the alpine village of Oberammergau, Germany, since the early 17th century.
Originally put on just once a decade to be spared from a plague sweeping across Europe in the 1600s, the play depicts the final days of Jesus Christ. Ironically, with a pandemic of our own in the 21st century, the play, scheduled initially for 2020, has been rescheduled to this year.

“After a two-year wait, we’re so excited to showcase the wonder and pageantry of the Passion Play to our guests,” said Jeremy Palmer, chief operating officer, Tauck. “The Passion Play was first inspired by a pandemic, which certainly brings an extra level of meaning and poignancy to the performances our guests will experience later this year.”
In addition to enjoying this unique play, travelers will pass through Bern, St. Gallen and Appenzell. From a locally guided tour of the flower-filled Ronsegarten to a visit to Albert Einstein’s home to a walk through the medieval Habsburg Castle, the eight-day tour leaves nothing out.
Pricing for the new Swiss Highlands & Bavarian Alps tour starts at $5,790 per person. This includes all accommodations, sightseeing, performances, excursions, admission to all attractions and most meals and gratuities.

May 14, 2025Hotel Van Zandt Review
One step onto Austin’s Rainey Street and you’ll feel like you’ve joined the cool kids at the best playground in the city. Just behind the cottage bars, pint-sized skyscrapers soar. One of them, Hotel Van Zandt, the Rainey district's pièce de resistance, beckons with a song-like spirit —apropos because the independently owned property, rife with music motifs, was named after beloved singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt. Sixteen stories high, the hotel embodies Austin’s lust for music, manifesting with a vinyl corner; trumpet chandeliers; myriad musical references; replica vintage posters in frames; and its own live music venue, which doubles as its acclaimed restaurant, Geraldine’s. Don’t miss the mesmerizing installation of colorful origami-like birds composed from vinyl records that flitter from an old phonograph.
