In this episode of Exploring Your Backyard, I take you to downtown Long Beach. This gem offers so much to see and do. You’ll find it has its own airport; so if you are not local, you can fly right into Long Beach Airport. From there, make your way out to the storied coast in less than 20 minutes.
One of my favorite places is the Aquarium of the Pacific. If you enjoy up-close animal experiences, this is the place for you! I’ve been going to this place since I was in high school and have seen it evolve into what it is today. They have a really great variety of exhibits, and you constantly have first-person experiences with educators who are at the ready to share their expertise and satiate your curiosity. Even as an adult I never stop being curious about wildlife, so having a place like this in my neighborhood is fantastic.

Some of my favorites: fifty-foot-long fish tank; the sea otter habitat (because sea otters are the cutest); Lorikeet Forest offers a chance to feed these adorable little creatures from the coastal lowlands of Australia; and last but not least, they even have a stingray touch tank.
