Last week I had the pleasure of touring Norwegian’s newest ship, the Norwegian Encore. As part of its Breakaway Class of ships, the ship is cutting-edge and bringing a wealth of dining and entertainment to the high seas.
I’ll let this selection of images from my tour do most of the talking, but here’s a few facts about Norwegian Encore to give you an overview of the ship at a glance:
- Delivery was taken on Oct. 30, 2019
- There are 20 decks
- Total passenger cabins are 2,043, with 4,963 passenger capacity
- Staterooms range from The Haven suites to studio staterooms
- The ship will stage a full-scale production of the Broadway show Kinky Boots
- Other entertainment includes The Choir of Man, a comedy show, a Beatles cover band and Happy Hour Prohibition: The Musical
- At more than 1,100 feet, Speedway is the largest race track at sea
- Laser tag meets augmented reality in an Atlantis-themed, outdoor laser tag arena
- Complimentary dining is available at Manhattan, Taste, Savor, Garden Café and The Local Bar & Grill, with another 14 specialty options
- 14 bars and lounges are available on board

Tucked into a Lake Maggiore enclave overlooking the Gulf of Colmegna, Relais Villa Porta is an idyllic place to take in a side of the Italian Lakes region that’s different from buzzy Lake Como during high season. In 1820, it was built as a hunting lodge, and by the end of the century, was transformed into an inn by Leopoldo Casnedi. Over time, the surrounding parkland was further enhanced with rare plants collected by Pietro Porta, its second owner and botanist, as well as regular guests wanting to support his efforts. This ensured the inn would ultimately sit pretty within a 10,000-square-meter park surrounding the main villa, a 19th-century Liberty-style greenhouse and original Villa Porta mosaic.
