My husband and I recently visited Asheville, North Carolina, with friends. On our first full day of the trip, we went for a hike to take in some of the area’s beautiful fall foliage.
We woke up early and drove just outside of the city to Mount Mitchell State Park. At 6,684 feet, it’s the highest summit east of the Mississippi River. After some trouble finding the trailhead, we were on our way for a strenuous ascent up the mountain. The changing colors of the leaves proved a picturesque experience.
Following our hike, we decided to refuel by visiting one of Asheville’s popular breweries for beers and lunch. We made our way to Sierra Nevada Brewing. The massive brewery offers tours and a full menu in its taproom. We opted to skip the tour and went right for the food and beer. We started by ordering flights so we could sample more varieties of beer. Next, we decided to split several plates, including the Danish smørrebrød, duck fat fries and pretzels with pimento beer cheese. Everything was delicious and perfect to fill up after a challenging hike.
The hike and brewery stop were the perfect way to kick off a fun fall weekend in Asheville with friends.
