It seems no matter where you go, airports are always busy. As frequent travelers know, at some airports you need to arrive early in order to get through TSA with enough time to reach your gate. With that in mind, here are the 10 busiest airports in the world where you might want to allow extra travel time.

In Airports Council International’s annual ranking of the busiest airports in the world, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) lands at the top of the list for the second year in a row. With an impressive 93.7 million passengers coming and going in 2022, ATL saw an increase of 23.8 percent over the previous year. The busiest airport in the world serves as a major hub for Delta Air Lines, one of the largest and most popular carriers in the world, offering both domestic and international flights. Other significant airlines flying through ATL include Southwest Airlines, United Airlines and American Airlines.

Checking in at No. 2, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) experienced substantial growth in 2022 with 73.4 million passengers. The airport’s size, strategic location and connectivity contribute to its popularity among travelers. In fact, DFW is so big, it occupies more surface area than the entire island of Manhattan. Connecting to destinations all over the world, DFW serves as a major hub for American Airlines, one of the largest airlines in the world.

Next on the list, Denver International Airport (DEN) served 69.3 million passengers in 2022. Over the past couple of years, DEN saw steady progress despite challenges brought on by the pandemic; it has been one of the top 20 busiest airports in the world since 2000. As a hub for United Airlines, DEN experiences a major flow of loyal United passengers.

Following Denver, Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) served 68.3 million passengers last year, showing a noticeable increase over the previous year. ORD serves as a major hub for American Airlines and United Airlines, both offering domestic and international flights.

Dubai International Airport (DXB), the first international airport on the list, makes an appearance at No. 5. With 66.1 million passengers passing through in 2022, DXB experienced an impressive growth from previous years. Serving as a home hub for Emirates, the largest international airline in the world, Dubai International Airport sees its fair share of international flights and passengers.

The bottom half of the top 10 list includes Los Angeles International Airport, iGA Istanbul Airport, London Heathrow Airport, Indira Gandhi International Airport and Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Escape to Tahiti for a Captivating Island-Hopping Cruise

The 118 islands of French Polynesia reveal themselves layer by fascinating layer, with the spirit of mana (vital force) linking them all the way from Tahiti to the remote reaches of the Marquesas. This is part of the world best savored on a journey that dives as deep into culture as natural beauty, both above and below the water’s surface. A cruise makes it easy to cover a lot of ground while unpacking just once (and sneaking in some work done in comfort, too, during at-sea days). And cruising offers particular appeal within this semi-autonomous French territory sprawling across nearly 2 million square miles of ocean and covering five archipelagos.

The Shelbourne Review

Facing the vast St. Stephen’s Green in the heart of Dublin sits the iconic and historic The Shelbourne. Few hotels master the perfect blend of history and luxury, but The Shelbourne gets it right. The site of the signing of the Irish Constitution in 1922 granting the Republic of Ireland its freedom from England, The Shelbourne has hosted its fair share of notable figures, from Michael Collins to Princess Grace Kelly to John Ford, the latter of which was the name of my suite.
