China has banned domestic airlines from joining the European Union’s Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS).
The Civil Aviation Administration of China has also barred the country’s airlines from increasing fares or adding new charges related to the carbon emissions standards.
Effective in January, the ETS plan imposes fines on aircraft in EU airspace that don’t meet specific emissions standards.
China is one of several countries that have rejected the emissions fines. Other countries protesting the ETS include USA, Canada, UAE, Japan, Singapore and Thailand.
