Daily

In the city where it’s claimed you can eat at a different restaurant every day and it would take almost 23 years to hit the same place twice, New York City constantly sees new and exciting food and beverage openings. This month is no exception, with three new eateries and experiences awaiting both residents and travelers to the Big Apple.

taste56

In Brooklyn, you’ll find brand-new taste56, a wine store and interactive tasting room situated in a building dating back to 1892. Within, guests interact with sommeliers with decades of experience, each of whom work the floor daily to offer guided tastings of 56 highlighted wines. Whether you opt to shop the full wine selection, walk in at any time for a tasting, go solo or experience with friends, each visit is visually organized by Palate Character.

This is an intuitive organization system that groups wines together based on characteristics of the wine rather than grape varietal or geographical location. The store’s sister restaurant and wine bar, bar56, also recently opened next door, allowing guests to enjoy a full day of food and beverage delights.

Tsubame

A new and exclusive omakase experience comes to New York City with the opening of Tsubame in Tribeca, with chef-owner Jay Zheng at the helm. Zheng created a kaiseki-inspired omakase experience to honor Japan’s rich traditions. In Japan, kaiseki refers to a traditional, multicourse meal built around the best seasonal ingredients. Tsubame, open for just 10 guests at the chef’s counter at a time, offers an eight-course tasting progression highlighting varied culinary techniques, seasonal Japanese ingredients and Western flair like caviar and truffle. The restaurant also boasts a growing sake list sourced from World Sake Imports and will soon feature a wine program, too.

Tacombi

This new food and beverage brand connects people to Mexico, all from the heart of New York City’s East Village. This taqueria is the first counter-service-only location with the Master Taqueros at the forefront of the restaurant. Perfect for those on the go, Tacombi offers a communal standing table, where guests can dine on dishes from a menu different from what is found at other Tacombi taquerias. Highlights include Tacos de Suadero, a traditional, slow-braised beef taco from Mexico City; Tacos de Longaniza, ground pork seasoned with garlic, dried chiles, achiote, cumin and clove; and drinks like Margarita Clásica and Sandia Santa (watermelon, lime and tequila).

Lala’s Brooklyn Apizza

East Williamsburg recently welcomed Lala’s Brooklyn Apizza, a rooftop dining destination serving classic Brooklyn pies with a view. Concocted by husband-and-wife duo Lauren and Joe Grimm, the same pair behind award-winning Grimm Artisanal Ales and Physica Wines, this new restaurant features specialty summer pizzas like Hot Pepperoni (tomato sauce, pepperoni, serrano chilis and honey); Clam (local little neck clams, aged mozzarella, garlic, Physica Riesling butter sauce and fresh parsley); and Squashed (summer squash medallions, squash blossoms, egg yolk drizzle, ricotta and cracked black pepper).

Escape to Tahiti for a Captivating Island-Hopping Cruise

The 118 islands of French Polynesia reveal themselves layer by fascinating layer, with the spirit of mana (vital force) linking them all the way from Tahiti to the remote reaches of the Marquesas. This is part of the world best savored on a journey that dives as deep into culture as natural beauty, both above and below the water’s surface. A cruise makes it easy to cover a lot of ground while unpacking just once (and sneaking in some work done in comfort, too, during at-sea days). And cruising offers particular appeal within this semi-autonomous French territory sprawling across nearly 2 million square miles of ocean and covering five archipelagos.

Reykjavík’s Nordic Charm Entices Corporate Travelers

It’s a sort of unwritten, gold-rimmed rule: The more enticing the location, the more rewarding strategy sessions and networking will likely be. That makes Iceland’s easily walkable capital city ideal for business and entertaining colleagues between meetings. Happily, Reykjavík is more accessible than ever, thanks to an ever-growing collection of cruise ships making port there.

The Dominican Republic Connects the World for Meetings and Conventions

Once an isolated outpost, the Dominican Republic now sits at a global crossroads, easily accessible from North and South America and from Europe. Due to its strategic geographical location in the heart of the Caribbean — occupying two-thirds of the island of Hispaniola, with Haiti taking up the westernmost third — it serves as a vital hub for trade and commerce with the rest of the world.

The Shelbourne Review

Facing the vast St. Stephen’s Green in the heart of Dublin sits the iconic and historic The Shelbourne. Few hotels master the perfect blend of history and luxury, but The Shelbourne gets it right. The site of the signing of the Irish Constitution in 1922 granting the Republic of Ireland its freedom from England, The Shelbourne has hosted its fair share of notable figures, from Michael Collins to Princess Grace Kelly to John Ford, the latter of which was the name of my suite.
